Floral clocks

Some flowers change their opening and closing times according to weather conditions, while some change their times for opening and closing according to the length of the day.

Others though have a biological clock that regulates the times for opening and closing. By careful selection of flowers, it is possible to create a clock that can be read by the state of the petals. Carolus Linnaeus (the Swedish scientist who laid down the basis for the scientific naming of plants and animals) proposed such a clock. The University of Uppsala has a flower clock in his honour.

There are many lists of such flowers on the web. The exact times may vary though, from one locale to another, depending on latitude, altitude, and longitude within your time-zone.
